Taking Measurements

All measurements should be taken in inches.

Position the tape measure firmly (but not tightly) around the body.

Please do not add into measurements for growing room.
If growing room is required please contact us for advice once you have the ‘true body measurements’

Please refer to the individual size charts that can be found by clicking on the ‘Size Chart’ button at the side of any product.  This will give the specific measurements required for that product.

Always required

A – Chest or Bust
Taken around the chest at the widest point.

B – Waist
Taken around the trunk of the body, at the narrowest point.

C – Hip
Taken around the bottom, at the widest point.

D – Girth
This measurement is taken around the trunk of the body and is essential for an accurate fit  – With the tape measure positioned between the legs take the tape ends up the back and front of the body to meet in a full circle at the shoulder.

Sometimes required

E – Inside leg
Taken in a straight line from the crotch to the point at which the trousers should finish. Please take into account any shoes which will be worn when taking this measurement.

F – Under Arm
Taken in a straight line from the armpit to the wrist

G – Back length for boys tops
Taken from the high shoulder point to the hem point

H – Skirt length
Taken in a straight line from under the bust, waist or hip to the hem point. This measurement is dependent upon design, please contact us for further advice.

N.B. Some fabrics stretch more than others so fabric choice can affect fit.

Lycra based garments fit in a very different way to those made from rigid fabrics so require different sizing calculations.

Some of the measurements charts displayed on this website use finished garment measurements and not body measurements. These are labelled accordingly.

Every garment is made to order, so we are usually able to make amendments to standard sizes at no extra cost.
